How to stay focused and improve your concentration

1. Get enough sleep. Adults need seven to nine hours a night, and any lack of sleep will negatively affect your concentration throughout the day. Make sleep a priority! 2. Eat breakfast. If you do not your short term memory and concentration will suffer. For breakfast eat whole grains, high protein foods, and avoid sweets. 3. Avoid logging into social media sites while doing work. It's OK to do so during breaks but it is better to complete a task then allow yourself to log on. 4. Multitasking will not make you more productive. It is best to concentrate on one task, and then move on to the next once you're finished. Studies show you are the most efficient when you're focusing on one task compared to multitasking. 5. Don't let boring tasks slow you down. Set up a reward for yourself to motivate you to complete a boring task. This will help you accomplish your goal. --Get more valuable tips like these regarding your health at www.WebMd.com

Easy how to slide show for a healthy breakfast

Everyday students hear advertisements, moms and nutritionists say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The blogging crew at Cougar Food and Fitness wanted to see if breakfast really is that important. We  set out to find a reliable source and came across the Mayo Clinic’s website. The Mayo Clinic was ranked as the second best hospital in the nation by U.S. News and World Report in 2010 and  according to an article written by Mayo Clinic Nutritionist Katherine Zeratsky, there are three main reasons why people should make breakfast a priority.

  • Eating breakfast helps you avoid overeating.  If you don’t eat breakfast your body can actually increase its fat storage and weight gain.  Your risk of obesity increases if you don’t eat breakfast.
  •  Eating breakfast leads to a balanced diet that is nutritious and lower in fat.  You won’t feel the need to grab a cup of coffee or a candy bar if you eat breakfast when you wake up in the morning.
  •  Eating a good breakfast is equal to putting fuel into your body and this leads to a healthy supply of blood sugar.  Skipping breakfast is associated with less physical activity, because we don’t have as much energy.

But are people really skipping such an important meal?  To find out, blogger Lena Seino, a believer in the benefits of a great breakfast, first made a healthy breakfast to show us all how simple it is.  We believe her turkey sausage scramble is an easy meal any college student can throw together. To see if others agreed, Seino then went one step further and interviewed a fellow WSU student to see what might keep other WSU students from receiving the benefits of a good breakfast.

Spring Break Safety

With Spring Break just around the corner, you can take a few precautions and still have the time of your life.

For example, if you want to avoid touring all the bathrooms during Spring Break, then eat yogurt every day for a week before you leave. The cultures and enzymes will strengthen the digestive system and helps avoid the dreaded Montezuma’s Revenge. Rushing to the Porta-Potty bathroom is not fun. This is just one of the many tips in the free Guide to Student Travel by the safety experts at www.CollegeSafe.com.

Here are some more tips for Spring Breakers:

• If you are taking a road trip, check out all belts, hoses, fluid levels, spare tire and tires on the car.

• Pack tools, a cellular phone, a first aid kit, a flashlight, fire extinguisher, water and snacks just in case the car breaks down.

• Remember to bring your health insurance card.

• Let your family and trusted friends know when you are leaving, when you’ll get back and how you are traveling.

• If you are traveling by bus, rail or air, don’t bring magazines with your name and address. Tear off your address label. You do not want people who know that you are away from home to know where you live.

• Don't have your name and address highly visible on your luggage for the same reason.

• Be aware of pickpockets who prey on people in crowds. They get close and bump into you without you noticing. Pickpockets also work in groups. One will distract while the other slips away with your goodies.

• If you stop at a restaurant, bar or cafĂ© and set your bag down, put your foot through the strap. That way it won't be taken without you knowing. Also, you'll remember to take it with you when you trip over it as you leave.

Take these simple precautions and you can have a Spring Break full of happy memories.
